Oil painting on canvas of Guild Wars Pine Bone Peak
160×250cm 1999
China People’s Revolutionary Military Museum
The Battle of the Pine Bone Peak depicts the tragic scene of fierce fighting between Chinese people’s Volunteer Army and the US military in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. From the dynamic composition and image surface, the author shows the fighting between war groups in a strong style, showing Chinese people’s Volunteer Army’s heroic and tenacious spirit, love of freedom and courage to sacrifice, and showing the tragic conflict in history. From the heavy history, the author found the most tragic, cruel and tragic moment in the war, and used realistic creative techniques to shape the image of one volunteer soldier after another solidly and vividly. Smoke hangs over the battlefield, blood and snow melt into ice, and the enemy and ourselves are intertwined and fight to the death. At the same time, it also makes us feel the cruelty of war and the fragility of life. The author’s handling of grand war scenes is unique: sunlight penetrates through the smoke and rhythmically creates the space of the battlefield; The spaced blue shadows on the snow set off the yellow-brown theme. The work depicts the details appropriately, but it does not lose the overall macro grasp. The thick colors reveal enthusiasm, and the simple brushwork reflects the painter’s excitement.
