Propaganda and ideological work is an extremely important work of the party. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the CPC Central Committee with the Supreme Leader as the core has placed the propaganda and ideological work in an important position in the overall work. The General Secretary has published a series of important expositions around the party’s propaganda and ideological work, and put forward a series of new ideas, new viewpoints and new conclusions, which provide a fundamental basis for doing a good job in the party’s propaganda and ideological work in the new era.
Propaganda and ideological work must keep pace with the times. On August 19th, 2013, General Secretary of the Supreme Leader quoted the old saying "The wise change with the times, and the wise make things according to the circumstances" at the national conference on propaganda and ideological work, emphasizing the importance of innovation in propaganda and ideological work. He stressed that we should focus on innovation in ideas, means and grass-roots work, strive to open up a new situation in work with a new leap in ideological understanding, actively explore new measures and methods that are conducive to solving work problems, and focus on innovation at the grass-roots level.

"A wise man changes with time, and a wise man makes a system according to things" comes from Huan Kuan’s On Salt and Iron in the Western Han Dynasty. In the original text, "making a system according to the world" was changed to "making a system according to things".
In the sixth year of Emperor Zhaodi’s reign (81 BC), the government of the Western Han Dynasty held a meeting on salt and iron. Sang Hongyang, an ancient scholar, and virtuous literary figures gathered from all over the country debated the issues of salt and iron official camp, equal loss and leveling.
It is the political proposition of virtuous literary people that "the wise change with the times, and the knowledgeable change with the times". Among them, "knowledge" means "wisdom". It means that smart people will change their strategies with the changes of the times, and wise people will make laws according to the changes of the world. This sentence emphasizes the importance and necessity of "change", advocates keeping pace with the times, actively makes appropriate adjustments according to the requirements of the development of the times, and opposes conformism.

General Secretary of the Supreme Leader, with the old saying that "the knower changes with time, and the knower works with things", profoundly reveals the importance and urgency of innovative propaganda and ideological work under the new situation, clarifies the main attack direction for doing a good job in propaganda and ideological work, and points out the realization path for winning the initiative in ideological work.
Under the new situation, great changes have taken place in the environment, objects, scope and methods of propaganda and ideological work. It is more necessary to innovate than ever before to do propaganda and ideological work well. At the National Conference on Propaganda and Ideological Work in 2018, the General Secretary of the Supreme Leader also pointed out that propaganda and ideological work under the new situation "should strengthen the innovation of communication means and discourse methods, and let the party’s innovative theory ‘ Fly into the homes of ordinary people ’ " It is necessary to "work hard on basic and strategic work, work hard on key points and major hazards, work hard on the quality and level of work, and promote the continuous strengthening of propaganda and ideological work."
All along, propaganda and ideological work has been facing the complicated reality with an active attitude by grasping the innovation in three aspects: concept, means and grass-roots work, and has continuously enhanced its attraction and appeal.
We should be honest, innovative and practical. Propaganda and ideological work strives to create a new situation. From high-end forums to grass-roots lecture halls, from colleges and universities to enterprises and military camps, innovative platforms, innovative carriers and innovative channels are colorful and have their own strengths, and the propaganda and ideological work is constantly strengthened and alive. The Party’s theoretical line, principles and policies "fly into the homes of ordinary people", rallying strong spiritual strength for realizing the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
